The Utah Utes are the “road” team as they take on the Wae Forest Demon Deacons Thursday night. Utah earned an 82-53 home win over UC Riverside in their previous contest at home Friday night, covering the line as a 16.5-point favorite in the process. Wake Forest was beaten 80-77 on the road by Georgia in their previous contest Friday night, failing to cover the line as a two-point underdog. In the all-time series between the teams, each side has won twice with the Utes taking the last two meetings. That includes a 63-45 win at home in the most recent matchup on December 28, 1998.

Utah won their second straight to start the season as they rolled past UC Riverside at home in their previous contest Friday night. The Utes stand 2-0 on the season and look to make it three straight triumphs to open the season as they take the floor here. Against UC Riverside, Utah gave up the opening bucket of the game but scored the next 17 to take control of the game early. The Utes steamrolled their way to a 48-13 advantage at the half and led by as many as 37 in the game as they earned the victory. Utah shot 48.5% from the field, including seven of 20 from three-point range, and controlled the glass by a 52-30 margin. Lawson Lovering led the Utes with 18 points and seven rebounds in the win.

The Utes are 30th in the nation in scoring offense as they pile up 91.5 points per game this season. Utah grabs 50 rebounds per contest (12th) while they stand 20th by hand ing out 24 assists per contest this season. The Utes are solid defensively, ranking 40th in scoring defense by allowing 59.5 points per game this season. Cole Bajema leads the Utes as he puts up an average of 15 points per game on the year. Branden Carlson (13.5 points, 5.5 boards), Gabe Madsen (12 points, 5.5 boards), Ben Carlson (11 points, 5.5 rebounds), Rollie Worster (10.5 points, 7.5 assists), Keba Keita (10.5 points, nine rebounds) and Lawson Lovering (10 points, 5.5 rebounds), Luka Tarlac, Hunter Erickson, Brandon Haddock, Jayden Teal and Jake Wahlin are solid secondary options for Craig Smith’s team.
