It’s a contest on the hardwood between a pair of the Big Five schools from the City of Brotherly Love as a member of the AAC makes the trek across the city to face a team from the CAA. The Temple Owls are on the road as they take on the Drexel Dragons Tuesday night. Temple comes in off a 75-68 road win over Navy in their previous contest Friday night, covering the line as a 6.5-point favorite. Drexel slipped past Winthrop 74-72 on the road in their previous game Friday night, winning outright as a 2.5-point underdog. In the all-time series between the teams, the Owls own an 8-1 advantage and have won the last five meetings. That includes a 73-61 home win in the most recent matchup on November 27, 2022.

Temple won their second straight game to open the season as they took down Navy on the road in their previous contest Friday night. The Owls now look to improve to 3-0 on the season and beat Drexel for the sixth straight time in this contest. Against Navy, Temple closed the first half on a 10-0 run to take a 41-26 advantage at intermission. The Owls led by as many as 17 with 17:19 remaining and withstood the Midshipmen’s charge to make a game of it. Navy climbed within three with 31 seconds to play but Temple hit their free throws down the stretch to earn the win. The Owls shot 41% from the field, including 10 of 32 from three-point range, and forced 14 Navy turnovers in the contest. Hysier Miller (five rebounds, five steals) and Jahlil White (10 rebounds) each had 18 points to lead Temple in the win.

The Owls are putting up an average of 80 points per game on the season, putting them 145th in the nation in scoring offense. Temple is grabbing 42 rebounds per contest and hands out 12 assists per game. The Owls are above average on the defensive end ranking 141st in scoring defense by allowing 66.5 points a night. Hysier Miller is one of three players on the team scoring in double figures with 17.5 points plus 4.5 boards a night this season. Jahlil White (16.5 points, 12 rebounds) and Matteo Picarelli (13 points) are quality secondary scoring options. Zion Stanford, Steve Settle III, Sam Hofman, Shane Dezonie, Jordan Riley and Emmanuel Okpomo are needed to contribute for Adam Fisher’s team to have any kind of success. Temple shoots 42.1% from the field on the year. The Owls knock down eight threes a night while shooting 31.4% from beyond the arc. Temple has been excellent at the free throw line, as they are sinking 80.8% of their chances on the year, which is 22nd in the nation.
