Rutgers was 6-2 on Oct. 21 after beating Indiana 31-14 on the road. Their two losses came against Michigan (31-7) and Wisconsin (24-13), but they took care of business in winnable games. They held No. 22 Iowa to three first-half points last week, but then gave up 19 points in the second half en route to a 22-0 loss. It's not that difficult to slow down Iowa's offense, but their defense is for real. That's why that total was a historically low 27.5 and easily went under.
The Scarlet Knights were outgained 402-127. QB Gavin Wimstatt was held to 93 yards passing on 7-of-18 passing. Kyle Monangai was held to 39 yards on 13 carries and was taken out in the fourth quarter due to a lower leg injury. He's not listed on the injury report, but that's an injury to be concerned with. Monangai leads the Big 10 with 942 yards rushing with 7 TDs (5.2ypc). Wimsatt is the second-leading rusher wi th 409 yards and seven TDs. The next-leading rusher is Ja'Shon Benjamin (174 yds, 1 TD).
Rutgers' defense has been the story this season. They are allowing just 295 yards per game (13th) and 166.2 passing yards per game (9th) along with 128.8 rushing yards (41st) with 18.3 points (20th). That defense will certainly be tested against Penn State. The offense had been dreadful in the passing game (140.9ypg), but they do average 169.7 yards per game on the ground. Wimsatt is completing just 48.2% of his passes for 1,356 yards with eight TDs and six INTs.
