Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh was suspended by the Big 10 for the Penn State game on Friday for the rest of the regular season due to an in-person scouting scandal, so the Wolverines were led by assistant Shrerone Moore. The Wolverines didn't seem to be distracted against Penn State, winning 24-15. It wasn't pretty or as dominant as most of their wins, but it's usually not easy beating the Nittany Lions in Happy Valley.

Blake Corum led the way for the Wolverines with 145 yards and two touchdowns. Michigan produced just 15 first downs and 60 passing yards, so the running game (227 yards) had to be on point. Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy threw just eight times and completed seven. He did not attempt a pass in the second half. Michigan didn't have to throw because their defense was so impenetrable. They allowed just 74 passing yards and 164 rushing yards on 35 attempts.

Michigan might have the nation's best defense. They rank first in yards allowed (232.9ypg), first in passing yards allowed (134.6ypg) and first in points allowed (7.5ppg). Offensively, they are solid, but not great. They average 410.5 yards per game (47th), 237.4 passing yards (59th) and 173.1 rushing yards (45th).

McCarthy was having a Heisman-worthy year, though throwing 8 passes last week won't help his case along with the scandal. He's completing 76.2% of his passes for 2,194 yards with 18 TDs and three INTs. Corum has 794 rushing yards with 18 TDs (5.2ypc).
