The Los Angeles Kings are on the road as they travel to take on the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday night. Los Angeles comes in off a 4-0 blanking of Edmonton in their previous contest Saturday night at home. Buffalo was beaten 3-1 at home by St. Louis in their previous contest Saturday afternoon. Los Angeles has righted the ship, at least temporarily, as they shut out Edmonton to earn their second straight win Saturday night. The Kings entered Monday 24-15-10 on the season and stood fourth in the Pacific Division, 18 points behind Vancouver for the top spot. They were three points behind the Oilers for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the Pacific Division and held the top wild card spot. Los Angeles stands 15th in the league in goals per game as they score an average of 3.16 goals a night this season. The Kings are tied for 4th in goals against by allowing an average of 2.59 goals per contest. Los Angeles is 15th in the league in power play success as they convert 21.5% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Kings are solid in the penalty killing department as they are 1st in the league in penalty killing as they successfully navigated 87.7% of their shorthanded situa tions.

Against Edmonton, Los Angeles was sharp defensively and got some timely scoring to put the game in the win column Saturday night. The Kings held a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period of play with neither team scoring, keeping the game scoreless after 20 minutes of play. Los Angeles was outshot 11-8 in the second period but outscored Edmonton 2-0 to lead by that margin at the second intermission. Pierre-Luc Dubois opened the scoring with a power play goal, his 11th of the season, at 2:38 off assists from Jordan Spence and Trevor Moore. Less than a minute later, at 3:37, Trevor Lewis made it a 2-0 game with his seventh goal of the year off an assist from Quinton Byfield. In the third period, Los Angeles was outshot 10-8 and outscored the Oilers 2-0 to put the game away. Byfield extended to a 3-0 lead with his 15th goal of the season at 7:06 off assists from Vladislav Gavrikov and Matt Roy. Later in the period, Byfield sco red his second of the night and 16th of the year, into an empty net, at 17:18 off assists from Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe. David Rittich made 26 saves to record a shutout for the Kings in a game where the shots were even at 26. He’s likely to be between the pipes again for this contest.
