The Buffalo Sabres face the New York Rangers with both teams on opposite ends of the standings. The Sabres have a 14-17-3 record and with only four wins in their last 10 games, they have the second-worst record in the Atlantic Division. The Rangers have a 22-7-1 record and with seven wins in their last 10 games, they have the best record in the Eastern Conference. The Sabres hope to turn their season around while the Rangers look to remain the team to beat in the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game should be a good one.

The Sabres are having a rough season despite their offense stepping up and scoring 3.03 goals per game. Casey Middlestadt, Jeff Skinner, and John-Jason Peterka have scored 34 goals and 43 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Alex Tuch, Tage Thompson, and Dylan Cozens have combined for 24 goals and 37 assists while defensemen Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power have added 11 goals and 30 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.41 goals per game with 12 goals in the last two games. Owen Power and Henri Jokiharju have combined for 2.6 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. Additionally, goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has struggled with a .893 save percentage and a 3.17 goals-against average on 422 sh ots with -4.3 goals saved above average.
