The Toronto Maple Leafs face the Columbus Blue Jackets with both teams heading in opposite directions this season. The Maple Leafs have a 16-8-6 record and are in second place in the Atlantic Division but have lost two games in a row. The Blue Jackets have an 11-17-6 record and following an overtime loss, they have the worst record in the Metropolitan Division. The Maple Leafs are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.57 goals per game with 12 goals in the last three games. Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and Mitch Marner have scored 54 goals and 60 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has been great as well. John Tavares, Max Domi, and Calle Jarnkrok have combined for 20 goals and 44 assists while defensemen Morgan Rielly and Jake McCabe have added five goals and 27 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has been a mess, allowing 3.43 goals per game including 14 goals in the last two games. Morgan Rielly and T.J. Brodie have combined for 2.9 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. In addition, goaltender Ilya Samsonov has been awful with a .871 save percenta ge and a 3.79 goals-against average on 356 shots with -11.6 goals saved above average.
