Western Carolina vs Furman Prediction – Basketball Picks 3/5/23

The Western Carolina Catamounts and Furman Paladins face off on Sunday in the Southern Conference Tournament in a college basketball showdown at the U.S. Cellular Center. When these two teams faced off on February 11th it was Furman that secured the 93-59 victory. 

Western Carolina comes into this game with an 18-14 record overall and they were able to beat East Tennessee State on Saturday. The defense gave up only 57 points and that led to the 12-point victory. Tyzhaun Claude had a strong game finishing with 15 points and five rebounds. Western Carolina is averaging 74.5 points per game while the defense is giving up 71 points per game. The defense is improved from last year, but this still isn’t a very good defensive team. Tre Jackson is having a strong season averaging 15.9 points while shooting 43.5 percent from the field. 

On the other side of this matchup is Furman who sits with a 25-7 record overall and they are coming off a big win on Saturday against Mercer. The offense scored 73 points, but even more impressive was the defense giving up only 58 points. JP Pegues had a strong game finishing with 22 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Furman is averaging 81.9 points while their defense is giving up 70.7 points per game. They like to push the pace, and they are going to need to do that again here. Mike Bothwell is averaging 17.9 points while shooting 52.5 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from behind the three-point line.
