The Vegas Golden Knights are on the road as they travel east to take on the Florida Panthers Saturday afternoon. Vegas was in action on the road against Tampa Bay Thursday night in their previous contest, falling 5-4. Florida hosted St. Louis in their most recent game Thursday night and was stifled in a 4-1 defeat. In the last 10 meetings between the teams, the Golden Knights own a 7-2-1 advantage, including a 9-3 romp in the most recent meeting, which came in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals on June 13, 2023.

Vegas was in action against Tampa Bay Thursday night in their previous contest and saw their rally go for naught in a loss. The Golden Knights entered Friday even with the Canucks for the top spot in the Pacific Division with a 21-8-5 record. Vegas entered Friday’s action tied for 9th in the league in goals for as they average 3.41 goals per contest on the season. The Golden Knights are 7th in the league in goals against as they give up an average of 2.68 goals per game this season. Vegas is 12th in power play success as they cash in on 22.8% of their opportunities with the man advantage. The Golden Knights are 13th in the league in penalty killing in the early going as have successfully navigated through 81.8% of their shorthanded situations on the season.

Against Tampa Bay, Vegas led early, struggled in the middle, then staged a rally to get back in the game but gave up the winner late to end up on the wrong end of the scoreboard. The Golden Knights were outshot 11-9 in the opening period but took a 2-0 lead to the dressing room at the first intermission. Jonathan Marchessault opened the scoring with his 16th goal of the season at 11:40 off assists from Paul Cotter and Brendan McNabb. Ivan Barbashev made it a 2-0 game with his ninth of the year at 16:58 off assists from Mark Stone and Jack Eichel. In the second period, Vegas was outshot 13-12 and outscored 4-0 to trail 4-2 after 40 minutes of play. The third period saw the Golden Knights with a 13-12 shot edge and they outscored Tampa Bay 2-1, leaving them a goal short as time expired. Marchessault scored his second of the night and 17th of the season, on the power play, at 5:31 off assists from William Karlsson and Eichel to make it a 4-3 game. Cotter tied the game with his fifth of the season at 9:44 off assists from McNabb and Ben Hutton. The Golden Knights gave up the winning goal with 1:13 remaining in regulation. Jiri Patera made 31 saves in net for Vegas, who was outshot 36-34, in the loss. Logan Thompson is expected to be between the pipes for this contest.
