The UTEP Miners finished three straight home games on a high note with a 74-49 win over New Mexico State on Saturday night. The win was the second in three games for the Miners and improved their record to 13-11 overall. The 25-point margin of victory was the highest ever over New Mexico State and their highest margin of victory in 25 seasons. Tae Hardy led the way with 21 points including a career-best six 3-point field goals. David Terrell Jr. gave the Miners critical production off the bench with 12 points, all in the second half, along with five rebounds.

“I want to thank the crowd, it was incredible tonight,” UTEP head coach Joe Golding said. “We had some success with it. When that place is like that, it's magical. I've got a tremendous amount of respect for Jason Hooten. He's done a tremendous job with NM State. He's a friend, I hate competing against him. That's just life on the road in Conf erence USA right now. It's tough to win on the road. I'm proud our guys, they played terrific and fed off the crowd. Our start was great. NM State came back, made a little run, got it to eight at halftime and then six in the second half, and we were able to pull away. Offensively in the second half we were much better. We only had four turnovers (in the second half). We valued the basketball and were able to execute.”

UTEP now needs to show its muscle on the road as they travel to Western Kentucky on Thursday night. The Miners are an abysmal 0-7 on the road this season. They come into this matchup ranked fifth in C-USA in scoring this season. The Miners are also fifth in field goal shooting and 8th in 3-point shooting. They are 8th in the conference in three-point field goals made per game as well. Defensively, the Miners are fifth in scoring defense in Conference-USA. They are just 8th in field goal defense but are second in 3-point defense. The Miners are first in the conference in fewest turnovers per game and first in total rebounds.
