A pair of teams from the Pac-12 take the field in search of a victory as they collide on the gridiron in the Valley of the Sun. The #22 Utah Utes are on the road as they make the trip to face the #17 Arizona Wildcats Saturday afternoon. Utah comes in off a 35-28 road loss to #5 Washington in their previous contest last Saturday, though they covered the line as a 9.5-point underdog. Arizona earned a 34-31 road victory over Colorado in their previous game last Saturday though they failed to cover the line as an eight-point favorite. In the all-time series between the teams, the Utes own a 26-19-2 advantage and have won the last six matchups. That includes a 45-20 home win in the most recent matchup on November 5, 2022.

Utah battled against #5 Washington but their offense dried up in the second half, leading to one of those close but no cigar situations. The Utes dropped to 7-3 overall and stand sixth in the Pac-12 with a 4-3 conference mark this season. Against Washington, Utah trailed 10-7 after the opening quarter but took a 28-24 lead at the half thanks to a touchdown with 57 seconds to play in the opening half. The Utes didn’t score another point, getting outscored 11-0 in the second half to wind up on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Utah was outgained 457-382 in total offense, gave up 26 first downs while picking up 17, lost time of possession by a 34:58 to 25:02 margin and turned the ball over twice while forcing only one takeaway. They also allowed a safety in the defeat.

On the season, the Utes are 118th in the nation in passing offense with 170.2 yards per game through the air and 31st in rushing with 184.9 yards per contest. Utah is 80th in the FBS in scoring offense with 25.3 points per game and stand 16th in the FBS in scoring defense by allowing 17.8 points per game. Bryson Barnes is 103 of 176 passing for 1,197 yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions while adding 223 yards and three scores on the ground. Nate Johnson (39 of 72, 499 yards, three TD, 153 rushing yards, three TD) has seen his share of action under center as well. Ja’Quinden Jackson leads the team on the ground with 122 carries for 627 yards and four touchdowns this season. Jaylon Glover (102 carries, 396 yards, two TD) and Sione Vaki (31 carries, 239 yards, two TD) have also seen work on the ground. Mikey Matthews is tied for second on the team with 25 receptions for 229 yards this season. Devaughn Vele (34 catches, team-high 482 yards, two TD), Money Parks (25 grabs, 261 yards, two TD), Munir McClain (seven receptions, 171 yards, TD) and Vaki (10 catches, 211 yards, three TD) are over the 150-yard receiving mark this season. Cole Becker has hit 24 of 24 extra point attempts and 11 of 14 field goal attempts with a long of 51. Joey Cheek is seven of seven on extra point attempts and one of two on field goal attempts with a long of 37.

Injuries have taken key contributors out of the offensive attack for Utah. QB Cam Rising (knee) was injured in the bowl game last season: after expecting to be back for the season opener, he has not taken the field. He was ruled out for the season last month. Mycah Pittman (undisclosed) along with tight ends Thomas Yassmin (undisclosed) and Brant Kuithe (undisclosed) are also done for the year.
