The UC Irvine Anteaters (1-1; 1-1 ATS) opened their 2023-24 campaign with a 72-64 defeat at San Jose State this past Tuesday. They went just 2-for-12 from beyond the 3-point arc and missed ten of their 26 shots from the foul line while recording a troublesome 11/15 assist-to-turnover ratio. Junior center Bent Leuchten had 14 points and six rebounds, and senior forward Devin Tillis added 12 points, five boards, and a pair of assists.
The Anteaters responded with a 91-74 home victory to New Mexico State this past Saturday. They dominated the Aggies all night long, going 10-for-23 from downtown and posting a 22/13 assist-to-turnover ratio. Devin Tillis notched an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double, while senior guard Andre Henry scored 19 points (4-for-7 from deep). < /span>
UC Irvine returned 62.4 percent of minutes and 51.2 percent of scoring from their 2022-23 roster. The Anteaters lost both Dawson Baker (15.3 PPG) and DJ Davis (15.0 PPG), who led the school to a 23-12 record last season. UC Irvine is No. 99 in the latest KenPom rankings, while Bart Torvik has the Anteaters at No. 88.
