San Jose State Spartans (4-2) vs. New Mexico State Aggies (2-5)

Week 8 of the 2022 college football season brings the non-conference clash from Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, New Mexico, as the San Jose State Spartans face off against the New Mexico State Aggies for the second straight year.

Last season, the Spartans barely outlasted the Aggies 37-31 as massive 25-point home favorites with a total of 51.5 points. San Jose State is a 21.5-point road fave this time around, while the totals sit at 43.0 points.

After three straight victories over Western Michigan 34-6, Wyoming 33-16, and UNLV 40-7, the San Jose State Spartans (4-2; 4-2 ATS) suffered a 17-10 defeat at the Fresno State Bulldogs in Week 7. Playing as 7-point road favorites, the Spartans outgained the Bulldogs 339-328 in total yards and won the turnover battle 3-1, but it wasn’t enough. SJSU failed to score in the second half, dropping to 2-1 in the Mountain West Conference play.

“I feel awful and disappointed,” San Jose State coach Brent Brennan said. “I let our team down. I let our school down. We didn’t play our best football. It’s disappointing.”

The Spartans gained just 37 rushing yards against Fresno State. They also punted nine times, converting only three of their 14 3rd downs. Junior signal-caller Chevan Cordeiro completed just 22 of his 44 passing attempts, throwing for 302 yards, a touchdown, and his first interception in 2022, while senior WR Elijah Cooks had seven catches for 140 yards and a TD.

Cordeiro has thrown for 1,610 yards and seven touchdowns so far this season while carrying the ball 70 times for 173 yards and six scores.
