Fresno State vs. New Mexico Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-22-2022

Fresno State Bulldogs (2-4) vs. New Mexico Lobos (2-5)

The Fresno State Bulldogs head to University Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Saturday night to take on the New Mexico Lobos in the Mountain West Conference showdown. It’s Week 8 of the 2022 college football season, and we’ve prepared the best Bulldogs vs. Lobos betting pick and odds.

Fresno State opened as a 13-point road fave, but that went down to 11 points at the time of writing. The Bulldogs have won seven of their previous eight encounters with the Lobos including a 34-7 home victory as huge 24-point favorites in 2021.

The Fresno State Bulldogs (2-4; 1-5 ATS; 1-1 conf.) put an end to a four-game losing streak with a 17-10 victory to the San Jose State Spartans in Week 7. Playing as 7-point home underdogs, the Bulldogs held the Spartans off the scoreboard in the second half and found a way to come out on top despite losing the turnover battle 3-1.

Fresno State shut down San Jose State’s ground game, yielding a paltry 37 rushing yards on 23 attempts. The Bulldogs carried the pigskin 36 times for 98 yards, and senior RB Jordan Mims led the charge with 16 totes for 65 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore signal-caller Logan Fife went 22-of-32 for 230 yards, a TD, and an interception, while senior wideout Nikko Remigio had six receptions for 54 yards and a TD.

“I couldn’t be prouder of th ese kids. It’s been a long, hard road, and a lot of people gave up on these kids,” Fresno State coach Jeff Tedford said. “That was a great defensive performance tonight. On offense, we didn't move the ball as we should, but sometimes you have to reserve the right to punt and play field position, especially when your defense is playing that well. We lost four in a row and they've been fourth-quarter, except in the USC game, we've been in the fourth quarter of every game and let it slip away. So, to see us finish the game in the fourth quarter today was really big for our team.”

The Bulldogs are yielding 26.0 points per game (65th in the country) on 212.2 passing yards (42nd) and 174.7 rushing yards (tied-100th). They are scoring 22.5 points in a return (106th) on 253.2 passing yards (57th) and 116.2 rushing yards (103rd). Senior QB Jake Haener has missed the previous three games due to an ankle injury, and he’s still considered week-to-week. Logan Fife has thrown for 665 yards, one touchdown, and five interceptions so far this season.
