The Rice Owls (4-5, 2-4 AAC) visit Charlotte, North Carolina and Jerry Richardson Stadium on Saturday for an American Athletic Conference showdown with the Charlotte 49ers (3-7, 2-4 AAC). Rice was defeated by the UTSA Roadrunners 34-14 last Saturday and has lost three straight. Rice must win each of its last two games to become bowl eligible. Charlotte was defeated by the Memphis Tigers 44-38 last Saturday and has lost two of the last three. Charlotte will not play in a bowl this season. Rice QB JT Daniels is questionable. Charlotte will play without DL Jalar Holley and RB Durell Robinson, while three others are questionable.

Rice is scoring an average of 31.1 points per game which is 43rd in the nation while gaining an average of 367.6 yards per game of total offense which is 81st. Rice has the 26th best passing game in college football, averaging 277.6 yards per game through the air but starting quarterback JT Daniels did not play last week and is questionable for this week due to concussion symptoms. Daniels has passed for 2,443 yards with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Backup AJ Padgett has only 241 yards passing with three touchdowns. Rice is led on the ground by Dean Connors with 448 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Luke McCaffrey has caught 51 passes for 768 yards and 10 touchdowns to lead Rice in each category.

 

Rice's defense is below average to say the least as the Owls are allowing an average of 29.2 points and 400.3 y ards per game which are 100th and 96th respectively. Rice is allowing an average of 159.9 yards rushing and 240.4 yards passing per game. Safety Plae Wyatt is the leading tackler for Rice with 65, while Coleman Coco is the leader in quarterback sacks with 3.0 and Gabriel Taylor is the leader in interceptions with two. Rice has made 17 quarterback sacks and has intercepted four passes.
