Purdue vs. Maryland Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-16-2023

Maryland (17-8 SU, 16-9 ATS, 8-6 B10) hosts Purdue (23-3 SU, 11-3-2 ATS, 12-3 B10) on Thursday night from Xfinity Center in College Park at 6:30pmET.

These teams met on Jan. 22 with Purdue winning 58-55, but they didn't cover the nine points.

Purdue (4th NCAA Net Rankings) went from first to third in the AP Top 25 College Basketball poll after losing to Northwestern on the road 64-58 on Sunday. The Boilermakers still have a great chance of earning a top seed in the NCAA Tournament, but they have lost two straight road games to Indiana (79-74) and Northwestern (64-58). Zach Edey led Purdue wth 26 points, three blocks, and eight rebounds, but also had six turnovers. The Boilermakers shot just 36% from the field and 23% (5-of-22) from beyond the arc.

When it comes to dominant big men, Purdue has cornered the market on them thanks to 7-4 Zach Edey. The big man is averaging 22.2 points and 13 rebounds with a serious shot at the National Player of the Year. Purdue's three-point shooting is coming a bit of a problem as they are making just 33.6% (8th in Big 1) of their treys in conference play and 36.1% overall (5th). They defend it pretty well, holding teams to 32.6% (4th). Thank to having Edey, they are first in rebounding margin at 10.8 per game. The biggest concern is turnover margin where they rank 13th in the Big 10 (-2.80).
