The World Series began Friday in exciting fashion as the Philadelphia Phillies completed one of the best single-game comebacks in the history of the Fall Classic.
Before Friday, teams were 220-5 in World Series history when leading by at least five runs. In Justin Verlander’s career including regular season and postseason, he was 99-0 with a five-run lead and his team’s record in those games was 101-2. The Phillies also became the fourth team to complete two comebacks of four runs or more in a single postseason and the other three teams went on to win the World Series.
The Astros will try to send the series back to Philadelphia tied Saturday, but the favorites will have their backs against the wall in a hostile environment for Games 3, 4 and 5 of this series.
