New Mexico at San Jose State – 2/17/23 College Basketball Picks and Prediction

The San Jose State Spartans will host the New Mexico Lobos in Mountain West play from the SJ Event Center on the CBSSN. New Mexico leads the head-to-head series, 19-5, after winning the latest matchup back in January by twenty points, 77-57.

New Mexico fell to 19-7 after losing to Wyoming at home.  to Utah State in Logan. The Lobos were in a funk offensively, and uncharacteristically lost to the Cowboys by double figures at The Pit, 70-56. UNM scores 82.1 points per game, while allowing 71.5 ppg, and shooting 49.1% from the field.

It may be time to hit the panic button in Albuquerque, as New Mexico finds itself in the midst of an untimely four-game skid. UNM has dropped to 6-7 MWC play, with a 4-4 road record. The backcourt pairing of Jamal Mashburn Jr. and Jaelen House forms one of the best duos in the nation, but an injury to the latter has left the Lobos scrambling for answers with March around the corner. Mashburn went for a game-high 32 points in the loss to Air Force last week, and he leads the Lobos in scoring (19.8). House’s absence has been glaring, and his status must absolutely be monitored heading into this road contest. Former Wichita forward Morris Udeze grabbed season-high 17 boards versus Wyoming last time to bring his averages to 15.2 ppg and a team-lead 9.0 rpg.
