The Montreal Canadiens face the New York Rangers with both teams heading in opposite directions this season. The Canadiens have a 22-23-8 record and with only four wins in their last 10 games, they are near the bottom of the Atlantic Division. The Rangers have a 34-16-3 record and with five wins in a row, they have leaped into first place in the Metropolitan Division. The Canadiens are having a rough season with their offense letting them down, scoring only 2.75 goals per game. Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield have scored 36 goals and 57 assists to lead the top line but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only four active skaters have nine goals or more and opponents can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has let them down, allowing 3.45 goals per game including seven goals in the last two games. Johnathan Kovacevic and Mike Matheson have combined for 3.5 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease.
