Mariners vs Astros Prediction & Pick

After giving up 15 runs in the first two games of the series, the Astros did a good job at silencing the Mariners' bats last night. Now, it's up to Houston starting pitcher Brandon Bielak to continue the trend. The 27-year-old lefty had a few shaky starts in June but looked good in his last start on Tuesday, striking out four batters without allowing a run on two hits over seven innings in a 4-1 win over the Colorado Rockies.

Having said that, Logan Gilbert has also been strong on the mound for the Mariners. In his last four starts, the 2018 first-round draft pick is 2-1 with a 2.30 ERA, 19 strikeouts and six walks allowed over 27 1/3 innings. Gilbert is winless in his last three encounters with Houston, though, having not beaten its AL West rival since June 2022.

Only two games back from first place in the division, the Astros will be extra motivated to win this afternoon. They've also won 12 of their last 18 encounters with the Mariners at Minute Maid Park, proving that they're more than capable of splitting this series.

Back the Astros to ride the momentum wave from yesterday's win.

Final Score Prediction:'Astros: 5 | Mariners: 3

Mariners vs Astros Best Bet

I'm looking at the total going under 8.5 runs as the best bet for this game. For starters, four of the Mariners' last five games have featured fewer than 8.5 runs while six of the Astros' previous nine have done so, too. Furthermore, the last four Seattle-Houston matchups this season only saw an average of 6.5 runs scored.

With both starting pitchers performing well recently, temper expectations when it comes to offense.
