Colorado Avalanche at Buffalo Sabres – 12/1/22 NHL Picks and Prediction

The Colorado Avalanche and Buffalo Sabres face off on Thursday in an NHL showdown at the KeyBank Center. The Avalance have won the last two games over the Sabres.

The Avalanche come into this game with a 12-7-1 record and they have gone 7-4-0 away from home this season. On Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets they couldn’t get any offense going and ended up losing 5-0. The Avalanche are averaging 3.3 goals while their defense is giving up 2.6 goals per game. The defense is ranked 6th in the NHL and will need to be the strength here. Mikko Rantanen has been the top player scoring 13 goals and adding another 16 assists. After being such a strong offense last year, they haven’t been as good this season. Last season the offense was elite but this year it's been more the defense that has been the strength.

On the other side of this matchup is Buffalo who headed into Wednesday night’s game against the Detroit Red Wings with a 9-12-1 record. They got out to a fast start to the season, but the last month has been tough. On Monday against the Tampa Bay Lightning the defense gave up six goals and that led to the one-goal defeat. Buffalo is averaging 3.68 goals per game while their defense is giving up 3.59 goals per game. The offense has been good, but the defense has been an issue. Tage Thompson has scored 14 goals and added 14 assists.
