After squeaking out an opening night win over Iona by just two points, the College of Charleston Cougars were pounded by Duquesne in the 10th annual Veterans Classic, 90-72 on Friday night. After winning 31 games last season, Cougars are now 1-1 on the season. The offense did in the Cougars on Friday night with the team going several stretches in the game without a basket, including a five-minute scoreless stretch in the first half. Charleston recovered and closed the half on a 9-0 run and led 37-33 at the half. The second half was a different story with the Dukes coming out on a 13-2 run and never looking back. Kobe Rodgers led the Cougars with 14 points while Ante Brzovic added a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Charleston may be hardpressed to match last year's success that led them to 31 wins and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. They were led by a high-powered offense that was 14th in the country in points per game. They return two starters from that team, a team that was also third in rebounding and 17th in 3-point defense. The Cougars were out-rebounded by Duquesne in that loss, shot less than 40% from the floor overall and 26% from 3-point range.
