Cal at Utah Prediction – Basketball Picks 2/5/23

The California Golden Bears will head to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Runnin’ Utes in Pac-12 play from the Huntsman Center on ESPNU. Utah and Cal have faced off 35 times, with the Utes now holding the series lead, 18-17, after beating the Bears in Berkeley back in December.

Cal fell to 3-19 after losing to Colorado in Boulder. The Golden Bears led the Buffs at the break, but ended up losing by 13 points after a sloppy second half. Cal is scoring 59.6 points per game, while allowing 68.3 ppg, and shooting 41.1% from the field.

Cal dropped their sixth straight game, and things just look flat out bad in Berkeley right now. There’s no pulse, and after scoring less than 50 points for the third game in a row, they can chalk this season up. The Golden Bears are 2-9 in Pac-12 play, with a 0-7 road record. Leading scorer Devin Askew (15.5) is out for the remainder of the season with hernia surgery, so it’s been an uninspiring effort offensively over the past three weeks. Veteran big Lars Thiemann is the only other scorer in double figures at 10.3 ppg, while leading the team in rebounding (6.1).
