San Francisco Giants vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 9-20-2022

This Tuesday the (69-77) San Francisco Giants and the (64-82) Colorado Rockies will play the second game of this four-game series. The first pitch will be thrown out at 8:40 PM EST inside Coors Field. The last time that these two teams matched up, the Rockies ended up taking two of three games and winning the series.

The Giants are coming into this one after being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants failed to get their bats going, as they were shut out in game one. They will have to be better at the plate in this one if they want to challenge the Rockies at home.

The Colorado Rockies are entering this one after winning their previous series against the Chicago Cubs. They looked great on the mound in the final two games, as they made it very difficult for the Cubs to score.

This game was written/published before last night's results.

The San Francisco Giants are currently in third place in the NL West, as they still trail the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers by 32.5 games. They are also 4-6 in their last 10, as their average play hasn't gotten them back into the Wild Card race. San Francisco is 11.0 games back from the Philadelphia Phillies for the third and final NL Wild Card spot.

At the plate, the Giants are currently scoring 4.40 runs per game and they are hitting .230 as a team. This is the 15th most runs scored per game and the 24th highest overall team batting average. They have struggled to consistently reach base safely this season, as this has made it much more difficult to score. They have also shown that they have a decent amount of power inside of their lineup, as they have multiple guys that can hit the ball deep. They are currently averaging 1.12 home runs per game, which is the 14th highest average in the MLB. I would also expec t the Giants to stay fairly conservative once they have reached base safely, as they don't have a ton of speed inside their lineup. They have only stolen 60 bases this season, which is the 22nd most.

According to MLB.com, the Giants will be starting Carlos Rodon on the mound. The left-hander is currently 13-8 with a 2.84 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. In his last start, he completely shut down the Braves, as he pitched for 5.0 innings and didn't allow an earned run. He hasn't been as great on the road, though. He is 6-6 with a 3.51 ERA when he is playing in his opponent's ballpark. The Giants bullpen has also been up and down this season, as they are allowing the 22nd most runs. As a team, San Francisco is currently allowing 4.44 runs per game, which is the 19th most.
