Youngstown State vs. Oklahoma State Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 3-15-2023

The Oklahoma State Cowboys (17-14, 15-16 ATS, 15-14 O/U) meet with the Youngstown State Penguins (23-8, 18-11 ATS, 21-8 O/U) in the opening round of the NIT Tournament on Wednesday night. The Cowboys posted a 17-14 record including an 8-10 mark in conference play. The Penguins registered a 23-8 record on the season and went 15-5 in Horizon League action.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are in the NIT after a disappointing string of games late in the season. Oklahoma State dropped five of its last six regular season games including a 74-68 loss against Baylor. The Cowboys beat rival Oklahoma in the first round of the conference tournament but were large six-point dogs in a 61-47 loss against Texas in the quarterfinals last week. The Cowboys have covered the spread in one of their last three road games. 

Bryce Thompson has only reached double-digits in two of his last four games. The junior guard was limited to four points in the loss to Texas last week and is averaging 11.7 PPG on 39% shooting. Kalib Boone has connected on at least 50% of his field goals in two of his last three performances. The senior forward has solid numbers, recording 11.2 PPG on an outstanding 59% mark from the field. Avery Anderson I II is consistently generating offense, sinking double-digits in five of his last six bouts. The senior guard has increased his season average to 11.1 PPG.

The Cowboys are ranked 38th in DI in Ken Pomeroy’s ratings and went 4-7 on the road including a victory against Texas Tech in the regular season finale. Oklahoma State is scoring an average of 69.5 points, marking them 234th. They have conceded 68 or fewer points in three consecutive games and are limiting opponents to only 66.8 points, placing them 88th.
