Victorian regulator targets Crown Melbourne over chips for cheques practice

Crown Resorts is once more facing disciplinary action in Victoria almost one year after the company was deemed “unsuitable” to operate its Melbourne casino.

Victoria’s Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) has commenced disciplinary proceedings against Crown Melbourne over its “bank and blank cheques practices.”

Based on the findings of last year’s Royal Commission, the regulator said Crown breached section 68 of the Casino Control Act, which prohibits licensed entities from extending credit to patrons in connection with gambling.

More specifically, customers were allowed to exchange a blank cheque – made payable to Crown – for chips used to gamble at the Melbourne casino.
