U.S. Open Favorites: 3 Top Picks to Have on your Betting Card

Golf's toughest test is set to tee off this Thursday when the 2023 U.S. Open begins at Los Angeles Country Club in Los Angeles, CA. With 156 of the world's best players all competing on some of the most difficult course conditions, fans should be expecting some exciting and impressive golf.

Betting the U.S. Open can be a tough endeavor, with so much talent all on one course, and every big name in golf, even just sorting through which of the favorites you like the best can be a tricky situation.

I'm going to go through three names in the top 10 of odds to target in your bets this week at the U.S. Open.

Top Favorites to Bet at 2023 U.S. Open

1. Scottie Scheffler (+750)

Scottie Scheffler might not have a major win this season, but there isn't anyone on Tour who has been more consistent. In his 16 starts, he has only finished outside the top 25 one time. 12 of those were top-10 finishes and a whopping 10 of those have been top-five finishes. Scheffler comes into the U.S. Open on a big run of four consecutive top-five finishes and top-10 finishes in eight of his last nine events. The one event he finished outside the top 10 during that stretch? He placed T11. Sure, Scheffler hasn't won a major yet this season, but that also doesn't mean he isn't playing well in them. He placed T10 at The Masters and T2 at the PGA Championship. He even won THE PLAYERS Championship, which has a field just as tough as the majors. There is zero evidence to suggest Scheffler won't be in contention to win this week. The last time that was the case was months ago.

2. Brooks Koepka (+1100)

Now that Brooks Koepka is fully recovered from his injuries and coming off a big major win at the PGA Championship, it's impossible not to like him this week in Los Angeles. Getting him at +1100 to win still seems like good value for Koepka in a major. He was T2 at The Masters and won the PGA Championship. And while he was terrible in majors during 2022, he was clearly dealing with injuries and prior to that he was just as automatic. Starting from the 2015 U.S. Open going through the 2021 Open Championship (22 starts), he placed outside the top 20 in a major only three times. In that same span, he had 14 top-10 finishes and four wins. When he is right, he is almost always in contention at the majors. Don't feel shy about taking him to win back-to-back majors here, especially as a two-time U.S. Open champion.

3. Viktor Hovland (+1700)

Viktor Hovland has turned from a really exciting young player into one of the best players in the world that is a legit threat to win every week this season. He is on a run of late that should have you loving his prospects entering the U.S. Open. He won The Memorial in his last start a week ago and has been fantastic in the two majors already this season. He was T7 at The Masters and T2 at the PGA Championship. Furthermore, at THE PLAYERS Championship, considered golf's unofficial fifth major, he was T3. Other premier finishes this season include a T10 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Hovland's game seems to be cli cking on all cylinders right now and like Koepka, the bright lights seem to bring the best out of him.
