Tuley's Takes Today: Sunday betting recaps, updated MLB stats, Monday Best Bets 7/25

Sunday was another action-filled day for sports bettors, though I’m still mostly focused on baseball until football season gets here. It was also hopefully the day when my illness (mostly sore throat, slight cough, no COVID) finally started to subside.

It mostly ended – as my Sundays often do – with a fun appearance on “The Lookahead,” so I certainly encourage any of my followers to tune in at 10:15 p.m. ET/7:15 p.m. PT on Sunday nights or in the archives.

My betting results didn’t go as well as I lost my Best Bet on the Padres + 105 at the Mets on Sunday Night Baseball. I’ve done a pretty good job lately of picking out starting pitchers and felt good about my bet as San Diego’s Joe Musgrove took a no-hitter into the 5th inning and took a shutout into the 6th inning, but it didn’t even let me cash my first 5-inning bet as the score was 0-0. The Mets’ bats woke up and we ended up losing 8-5. In my other bet on the Giants, the bullpen also let us down as the Dodgers beat them 7-4.

Let’s recap the rest of the Sunday MLB card and then try to find some live dogs (or, spoiler alert, pick-’em games) on Monday.

Sunday’s recaps

MLB: Faves went 10-5 Sunday with biggest upsets by Angels (+ 190 in 9-1 win at Braves), Reds (+ 143 in 6-3 win vs. Cardinals) and Royals (+ 135 in 4-2 win vs. Rays). Dodgers (-230) beat Giants 7-4 for sweep and 8th straight overall. Road teams led 9-6. Overs went 10-5.

More MLB: Faves lead 850-561 SU (60.2 percent) on the season with 23 pick-'ems (faves usually win around 59 percent; still ahead of pace, gap had been narrowing but back above 60 percent). Home teams lead just 745-689 (52 percent, but usually closer to 54 percent). Unders dip to 704-661-67 (51.6 percent).
