Tuley's Takes Today: Saturday betting recaps, updated MLB stats, Sunday Best Bets 8/7

Saturday was an action-filled day with a full slate of MLB (including two doubleheaders) and horse racing in the Tuley’s Takes home office.

In addition to my sports best bets from this daily version of my “Tuley’s Takes” column, I also do a “Team Tuley’s Thoroughbred Takes” column on Saturdays with some of my horse betting friends. I had a losing day betting the ponies (of my three posted plays, I only had one hit the board and pay $6.70 to Place), but I was also playing in an NHC qualifier (that’s for the National Horseplayers Championship at the end of the year, with 2 seats available to the top 2 finishers of Saturday’s tourney) and had a 70-1 long shot at Gulfstream Park that put me in the early lead. I wasn’t able to hold on, but I did finish 8th to earn some NHC Tour points.

As for my sports plays, they couldn’t have gone any better as I went a perfect 4-0 with my 1st 5 Inning wagers. All of them started between 4:10 and 4:15 p.m. Vegas Time, so I was able to watch them all play out together in real-time.

I won my Best Bet of the day on the Cardinals 1st 5 -110 vs. the Yankees as they led 1-0 after the “first half.” I also won my second play on the Royals 1st 5 + 115 as the Royals led the Red Sox 4-3 at the break. I also gave additional plays on the Reds 1st 5 + 150 as they led the Brewers 4-3 and the Twins 1st 5 + 110 as they led the Blue Jays 3-2. In addition, all 4 went on to win the full-game money lines as well, so it was a clean sweep any way you bet them (I just wish I had done a round-robin or some other parlays LOL).

Let’s recap the rest of Saturday’s (full-game) betting results and look for more 1st 5 inning opportunities on Sunday’s MLB card.

Saturday’s recaps

MLB: Underdogs went 9-8 Saturday with the biggest upsets by the Tigers (+ 220 in 9-1 win vs. Rays), Rockies (+ 161 in 3-2 win at Diamondbacks), Reds (+ 155 in 7-5 win at Brewers) and Guardians (+ 142 in 4-1 win vs. Astros). Home teams went 13-4. Overs went 10-6-1 with the push in the White Sox-Rangers (8) game.

More MLB: Faves lead 954-635 SU (60 percent) on the season with 25 pick-'ems (faves usually win around 59 percent; still ahead of pace; gap had been narrowing but now back at 60 percent). Home teams lead just 849-765 (52.6 percent, but usually closer to 54 percent). Unders lead 791-742-78 (51.6 percent).
