Tuley's Takes Today: Saturday betting recaps, updated MLB stats, Sunday Best Bets 7/24

Saturday was a long day in the Tuley’s Takes home office. After filing this column late Friday night, I was up early to work on my “Team Tuley’s Thoroughbred Takes” early Saturday, all the while still battling this sore throat that just won’t go away.

It was also a full day with 16 MLB games, including the Guardians and White Sox splitting a doubleheader.

I lost my Best Bet on the Red Sox + vs. the Blue Jays. It was a much more competitive game than Friday’s 28-5 rout, but the Red Sox still lost 4-1. At least I won my other MLB play as the A’s beat the Rangers 3-1.

But where I really made my money on Saturday was on the ponies, highlighted by Robin Sparkles in the Caress Stakes at Saratoga as she went off at 21-1 and wire the field as I predicted in TTTT. That makes up for a lot of losers, both in baseball and on the track.

Let’s recap the rest of the Saturday MLB card and then try to find a live dog or two on Saturday.

Saturday’s recaps

MLB: Faves went 10-6 Saturday with biggest upsets by the Orioles (+ 210 in 6-3 win vs. Yankees), Cubs (+ 152 in 6-2 win at Phillies) and Padres (+ 132 in 2-1 win at Mets). Home teams 9-7. Unders 8-5-3 (yes, 3 pushes!). Pushes were in CHC-PHI (8), CLE-CHW Game 2 (9) and WAS-AZ (9).

More MLB: Faves lead 840-556 SU (60.1 percent) on the season with 23 games closing pick-'em (faves usually win around 59 percent, so still ahead of that pace, but gap had been narrowing but back above 60 percent now). Home teams lead just 739-680 (52 percent, but usually closer to 54 percent). Unders improve 699-651-67 (51.7 percent).
