Tuley: Sunday MLB Best Bets 7/2

Saturday Best Bet Results

Saturday was another action-packed day with a wide variety of sports from a full MLB card (actually 16 games with the Yankees-Cardinals doubleheader) to golf, WNBA, UFC and even some football with the USFL championship game.

We lost our Best Bet of the day on that title game as we were waiting all week to get the Pittsburgh Maulers +7.5 vs. the Birmingham Stallions. The Maulers’ defense played decent enough early and only trailed 14-9 at halftime, but ultimately the difference in the game (and the cover) was that both teams had 4 scoring drives, but Pittsburgh only managed 4 field goals while they were unable to stop the Stallions from scoring TDs on their scoring drives as Birmingham won 28-12 to repeat as champions.

We fared better with our 2 MLB plays as our Red Sox First 5 Innings +125 play at the Blue Jays cashed as they were tied 2-2 heading to the 5th inning but Boston scored 3 runs to lead 5-2 after 5 innings to cash our pick and then went on to also win 7-6 for those who bet our plays on the full-game money line.

The same thing happened with our play on the Twins First 5 Innings +110 at the Orioles as the Twins led the pitchers’ duel 1-0 after 5 innings and that was also the final score.

Our 2-1 record and +1.35 units on the day was a great way to start July after going 23-37-10 in June for a net loss of nearly 11.4 units, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page after winning 15.6 units in May.

Let’s try to stay on the plus side of the ledger with some Sunday plays, though I should say it looks like rather slim pickens, especially for underdog bettors.

MLB Sunday Best Bets

Giants First 5 Innings +100 at Mets: This is the rubber game of a three-game series being played on Sunday Night Baseball. I couldn’t find another dog that I liked better all day Sunday. I’m not thrilled with backing Ross Stripling (0-2, 6.88 ERA), but this is more of a play against New York’s David Peterson (2-6, 7.00 ERA).

Padres -150 at Reds / Mariners -130 vs. Rays (parlay pays +195): Like I said, I don’t like any other dogs, so I’m going to do what I did during the NHL season with First Period Overs where I’d turn 2 faves into a dog by parlaying them together. Instead of First 5s, we’ll go full-game money lines with these 2 games. The Padres are a “swagger play” after snapping their 6-game losing streak on Saturday while the Mariners are in a “mini-swagger” spot after snapping a 3-game skid.
