The Texas Rangers came into the ALCS undefeated and with the hottest offense in the playoffs. Things started out in a similar fashion on Sunday night as the Rangers scored on a double by rookie Evan Carter and an RBI single from Jonah Heim in the second inning off of a Justin Verlander and opened up a 1-0 lead. The Rangers loaded the bases in the inning as well but left them loaded following a Marcus Semien pop-up to second with two outs. Leody Tavares homered in the fifth to make it 2-0, his first home run of the postseason. Jordan Montgomery kept the Astros off the board through 6.1 innings, scattering five hits while striking out six. Righty Josh Sborz came in and went .2 innings and left after walking the leadoff hitter in the eighth. Aroldis Chapman got out of the inning to keep the Rangers' bullpen perfect. Jose LeClerc closed the game out in the ninth inning as the Rangers made it six straight wins in the AL Playoffs to take a 1- 0 lead in this best-of-seven series.

The Rangers have to feel good about game two starter Nathan Eovaldi taking the hill. Eovaldi has been outstanding in the playoffs after struggling down the stretch of the season returning from the IL. He is 2-0 in two starts in the postseason with an ERA of 1.32. He has allowed 11 hits in 13.2 innings pitched with a 9.9 K/9 rate and a dominant WHIP of 0.80. In his career in the postseason, Eovaldi is 6-3 in 13 appearances with a 2.87 ERA and a K/9 of nearly nine. He is 1-1 against the Rangers this season with an ERA of 4.32 and seven hits allowed in 8.1 innings pitched.
