Tarleton State Texans (12-11) vs. UT Arlington Mavericks (8-15)

Week 14 of the 2022-23 NCAA men’s basketball season tips off Monday, February 6, with the Tarleton State Texans taking on the UT Arlington Mavericks in the Western Athletic Conference showdown at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

These two schools meet for the second time this term. Back in December, the Texans beat the Mavericks 70-63 as 7-point home favorites with a total of 130.5 points. The Texans are small 1.5-point road favorites this time around, while the totals are listed at 132.0 points.

The Tarleton State Texans (12-11; 9-10-1 ATS; 5-5 conf.) are coming off Saturday’s 68-65 defeat to UT Rio Grande Valley. The Texans were listed as huge 10-point home favorites but failed to extend their winning streak to three games. Over their last eight outings, the Texans have been pretty much hit-or-miss, going 4-4 SU and ATS in the process.

Tarleton State erased a 12-point halftime deficit last Saturday but couldn’t get the job done in the crunch time. The Texans shot just 38.0% from the field (4-for-13 from deep) and posted an underwhelming 7/10 assist-to-turnover ratio. Sophomore guard Shamir Bogues led the way with 19 points, five rebounds, and four steals, while junior guard Lue Williams notched 14 points. Freddy Hicks, a 6-foot-6 sophomore forwar d, added 13 points and five rebounds, and he’s now averaging 14.9 points and 5.6 boards on the season.

The Texans score 102.9 points per 100 possessions (225th in the country) on 49.4% shooting from inside the arc (255th) and 33.7% from downtown (215th). They make just 4.6 triples per game (355th) while handing out 12.3 assists (268th). The Texans take the second-most free-throw attempts in the nation (24.9 per game) but make just 67.1% of those shots (310th). On the other side of the ball, they allow 104.9 points per 100 possessions (165th) on 50.5% shooting from inside the arc (227th) and 35.1% from deep (272nd). Tarleton State is No. 185 in the NCAA NET Rankings and No. 200 in the KenPom rankings.
