The Tampa Bay Lightning face the Washington Capitals with both teams looking to improve on rocky seasons. The Lightning have a 16-13-5 record and are in the middle of the Atlantic Division but have won back-to-back games to leap into fourth place in the division. The Capitals have a 17-9-4 record and are in the middle of the Metropolitan Division but have three wins in a row. Both teams look to improve in the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game should be a great one.

The Lightning are having a promising season with their offense leading the way, scoring 3.41 goals per game with 11 goals in the last two games. Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos, and Brayden Point have scored 54 goals and 76 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has been great as well. Brandon Hagel, Nick Paul, and Anthony Cirelli have combined for 29 goals and 34 assists while defenseman Victor Hedman has added five goals and 27 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.50 goals per game. Erik Cernak and Nicklaus Perbix have combined for 2.9 defensive point shares but the rest of the defensive unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy has struggled with a .901 save percentage and a 2.93 goals-against average on 345 shots with -0.7 goals saved above average.
