Tampa Bay played the second game of a back-to-back Tuesday and had nothing left in the tank after a wild, 6-5 overtime win over Buffalo Monday night. The Lightning entered Wednesday 13-8-1 and third in the Atlantic Division, 11 points behind the Bruins. They look to shake off that loss and fatigue as this marks their third game in four nights. Tampa Bay went into Wednesday 7th in the league in goals per game as they average 3.45 goals per contest. The Lightning stands 18th in goals against by allowing 3.18 goals per game. Tampa Bay is 5th with the man advantage as they cash in on 28.6% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Lightning are 20th in penalty killing as they successfully work through 76.9% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Boston, Tampa Bay seemed to be out of gas when the third period rolled around and that ended up costing them the game. The Lightning were outshot 9-7 in the opening period of play and trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard after 20 minutes of action. In the second period, Tampa Bay saw the shots even at 11 and they scored the lone goal of the stanza to even the game at one at the second intermission. Steven Stamkos tied the game with his 13th goal of the season, on the power play, at 18:20 off assists from Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point. The third period say Tampa Bay hold a 10-6 edge in shots on goal but they were outscored 2-0 to wind up with the loss. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 23 saves for the Lightning, who held a 28-26 edge in shots on goal, in the loss. He is expected to get the start between the pipes for this contest.
