St. Thomas vs Western Illinois Prediction – Basketball Picks 3/5/23

The St. Thomas Tommies and Western Illinois Leathernecks face off on Sunday in a college basketball showdown in the Summit League Tournament at the Denny Sanford Premier Center. When these two teams faced off on February 18th it was St. Thomas that secured the 82-69 victory. 

St Thomas was just a DIII team a few years back, but they have been impressive. St. Thomas comes into this game with an 18-13 record overall and they have gone 18-11 against the spread. The Tommies are averaging 74.7 points while their defense is giving up 70.6 points per game. This is a team that wants to push the pace, but at times the defense has been an issue, and will need to be a lot better here. Andrew Rhode has been the top player for St. Thomas averaging 16.7 points while thile shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 30.2 percent from behind the three point line. 

On the other side of this matchup is Western Illinois who sits with a 16-13 record overall and they have gone 15-10-1 against the spread. In the last game against North Dakota they were competitive, but the defense wasn’t enough and they ended up losing 71-69. Trenton Massner had a strong game finishing with 24 points. Western Illinois is averaging 73.5 points while their defense is giving up 72.6 points per game. Trenton Massner is having a strong season averaging 19.3 points while shooting 44.3 percent from the field.
