A battle at the top of the SEC standings takes place on Wednesday night with a matchup between the #11 South Carolina Gamecocks (21-3, 9-2 SEC) and the #13 Auburn Tigers (19-5, 8-3 SEC). South Carolina is fresh of a home win over Vanderbilt, easily winning 75-60 as 11.5-point favorites. Auburn is coming off a road loss, going down in Florida 81-65 and losing outright as 1.5-point favorites. This is the only matchup between these teams this season, and Auburn won last year's matchup by 15 on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 EST from Neville Arena in Auburn, and can be found on the SEC Network.

The South Carolina Gamecocks are tied at the top of the SEC standings with a 9-2 record, tied with Alabama for the top spot. South Carolina has momentum on their side as they have won their last seven games coming into this ranked matchup. In their win streak, they defeated two other ranked opponents in #6 Kentucky and #5 Tennessee. In their last game, South Carolina was led in scoring by forward Collin Murray-Boyles with 31 points in the win.

Meechie Johnson is their leading scorer with 14.1 PPG, and is the top shooter on the team with 44 made threes on 33.3% shooting from deep. Johnson also grabs 4.2 RPG and dishes out 3.0 APG, but has only reached double figures in one of his last five games. BJ Mack is their top frontcourt player, he is a 6'8, 270-pound senior averaging 13.6 PPG to go with a team high 5.1 RPG. Mack had an 18 point, six rebound game in the recent win over Vanderbilt. Ta'Lon Cooper is the top playmaker on the team, he is a 6'4 senior guard adding 10.2 PPG and a team high 4.4 APG. Collin Murray-Boyles has turned on his game lately, he is a 6'7, 230-pound freshman forward averaging 8.9 PPG, but he has scored 16 or more in each of his last three including the 31 point game against Vanderbilt.

South Carolina is currently ranked 45th in the nation according to KenPom. They rank 50th in offensive efficiency and 51st in defensive efficiency. They p lay at one of the slowest paces in the country, ranking 355th in tempo based on their pace of play. South Carolina is currently projected to be a 5-seed in the NCAA Tournament according to Bracketology.
