The San Jose Sharks face the Edmonton Oilers with both teams heading in opposite directions this season. The Sharks have a 19-37-14 record and with only one win in their last 10 games, they have fallen into last place in the Western Conference. The Oilers have a 39-23-8 record and with three wins in a row have leaped into third place in the Pacific Division. Both teams look to improve in the Pacific Division and the upcoming game looks to be a good one.

The Sharks are having a season to forget with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.84 goals per game. Tomas Hertl and Logan Couture have scored 43 goals and 71 assists while defenseman Erik Karlsson has added 20 goals and 65 assists from the point but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only six active skaters have 10 goals or more and opponents can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has let the Sharks down this season, allowing 3.76 goals per game with 27 goals in the last six games. Erik Karlsson and Matt Benning have combined for 5.1 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen has struggled with a .879 save percentage and a 3.89 goals-against average on 980 shots with -25.4 goals saved above average.
