San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 6-21-2023

San Diego Padres (35-37) vs. San Francisco Giants (40-32)

The MLB betting action goes on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, with the San Diego Padres squaring off against the San Francisco Giants in the NL West showdown at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, and the first pitch is set for 9:45 PM ET.

San Diego and San Francisco lock horns in the third of a four-game series at Oracle Park. The Giants beat the Padres 7-4 in Monday’s opener, while the second game of the series has been excluded from the analysis.

The San Diego Padres fell to 35-37 on the season following Monday’s loss in San Francisco. The Padres took a 4-0 lead following Juan Soto’s second solo home run of the game in the top of the fifth inning, but they couldn’t hold on down the stretch, allowing the Giants to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth and walked it off in the tenth.

It was San Diego’s third loss in five games, and the Padres were four games behind the final wild-card spot in the National League on Tuesday. They are slashing a strong .264/.342/.463 with 28 extra-base hits and 17 home runs in the last two weeks and 402 at-bats, while the Padres’ bullpen has registered a 4.26 ERA and 4.88 FIP across 44.1 innings of work during that span.

Yu Darvish will toe the rubber Wednesday, and the 36-year-old right-hander is 5-5 with a 4.74 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 79/23 K/BB ratio in 13 starts (74 innings pitched) this season. Darvish has struggled a lot over his last four starts, allowing 17 earned runs on 22 hits and six walks across 20 innings of work. Last Friday, he was shelled for six earned runs on eight hits through five frames in a losing effort against the Tampa Bay Rays.
