San Diego Padres vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 7-25-2022

San Diego will be looking to bounce back from a loss at New York when it travels to Detroit on Monday night. The Padres won their first two games against the Mets, but they came up short of the series sweep in primetime on Sunday night. Detroit enters this series on a three-game losing skid following a 9-1 loss to Minnesota.

San Diego will be hoping to take some positives away from its series in New York despite failing to record the sweep on Sunday night. The Padres opened with wins on Friday and Saturday, but they were unable to finish the job on Sunday. They jumped out to a 1-0 lead before ace Joe Musgrove allowed a three-run home run to Pete Alonso. San Diego struggled down the stretch prior to the All-Star break, losing 15 of its final 23 games. The Padres are 11.5 games back of Los Angeles in the NL West, but they are 3.5 games ahead of Philadelphia in the NL Wild Card race.

They have not been able to get the offense going, ranked No. 17 in batting average (.241). Star third baseman Manny Machado leads the way with 96 hits, including 16 home runs. He will be facing a Detroit pitching staff that is No. 21 with an ERA of 4.17. Left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea is expected to be on the mound for San Diego in this game. He allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks across six innings against Arizona his last time out. Manaea picked up his fourth quality start in his last five outings, and he also picked up consecutive wins for the first time this year. The southpaw has not had a great season, posting a mediocre 4.11 ERA and 1.23 WHIP prior to the All-Star break.
