Rutgers at Illinois Prediction – Basketball Picks 2/11/23

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights fly to Champaign to face the Illinois Fighting Illini in Big Ten play from Assembly Hall on Fs1. Illinois leads the head-to-head series, 10-4.

Rutgers dropped to 16-8 after falling to Indiana in Bloomington. The Scarlet Knights were the latest victims to a big game from Hoosiers forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, and they’d lose by six points. Rutgers is scoring 70.5 points per game, while allowing 58.7 ppg and shooting 43.7% from the floor.

Rutgers will aim to make this trip to Assembly Hall right after slipping up versus the Hoosiers. The Scarlet Knights are 8-5 in Big Ten play, with a 2-5 road record. Rutgers has one of the top defensive units in the country, and they play through Clifford Omoruyi from the inside. The junior center double-double in the win over Michigan State last week, and he leads Rutgers in scoring (13.5) and rebounding (9.8). Cam Spencer has meshed in nicely after coming over from Loyola (MD), and he’s second on the team in scoring at 12.9 ppg. Veteran guards Caleb McConnell (9.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg) and Paul Mulcahy (8.6 ppg, 4.9 apg) each bring over 110 games of experience to the lineup.
