The 2022-23 NCAA college basketball season is finally here. The action continues on Tuesday, Nov. 8 with another slate of intriguing matchups, including a 6:30 p.m. ET showdown between the Rider Broncs and Providence Friars.

The 2022 season was a rollercoaster for Rider. Though the Broncos finished with a sub-.500 regular-season record (12-18, 8-12 vs. MAAC), they still made it all the way to the MAAC Tournament's semifinals.

Meanwhile, Providence also enjoyed varying success last season. The Friars earned the first Big East regular-season championship in school history and even advanced to the Sweet Sixteen during March Madness. It'll be interesting to see what head coach Ed Cooley accomplishes in his 12th year behind the Providence bench.

Rider vs Providence Odds & Spread

Moneyline:'RID: (+680 | PROV: (-1100)
Spread:'RID: +13.5 (-114) | PROV: -13.5 (-106)
Total:'142.5 -Over: (-114) | Under: (-106)

Providence enters this contest as massive home favorites on the moneyline and spread per FanDuel Sportsbook's odds. This 6:30 p.m. ET clash also features an over/under of 142.5 points, which is average compared to Tuesday's projected totals.

Rider vs Providence Prediction & Pick

Rider and Providence have only met four times over the years and none of those meetings has gone well for the Broncs. The Friars have won each of the previous head-to-head matchups, including the last one – an 88-84 effort – back in November 2017.

Unfortunately for Rider fans, I expect Providence to continue its success on Tuesday. In addition to never having lost to the Broncs, the Friars are also 12-0 straight up in their last 12 games aga inst the MAAC. Furthermore, they've also lost only one of their last 20 games at Amica Mutual Pavilion.

The skill gap between the MAAC and Big East will make it difficult for Rider to succeed. After all, the Broncs only averaged 66.6 points on the road against lesser competition last season, whereas Providence averaged a respectable 76.5 PPG at home.

Though Rider has stepped in the past to challenge its upcoming opponent, expect Providence to stand strong by opening the season with a victory.

Final Score Prediction:'Providence: 79 | Rider: 68

Rider vs Providence Betting Trends

– Rider is 13-5 against the spread (ATS) in its last 18 games.
– Providence is 12-0 straight up in its last 12 games against the MAAC.
– The total has hit the over in each of Rider's last eight games against the Big East.
– The total has hit the under in four of Providence's last five games.

Rider vs Providence Best Bet

Even though Rider hasn't beaten Providence, the former has been able to keep things close. The Friars have only beaten the Broncs by over 13.5 points once (1986) and have only won the last two meetings by single-digit margins.

With Rider also being a solid 7-2 against the spread in its last nine road games, I'm taking the Broncs to keep things closer than the odds imply. Back Rider at +13.5 on the spread.
