It has been a challenging first season for URI head coach Archie Miller in Rhode Island. The Rams started the season slowly, losing four of their first five games, and then ended with a thud, losing eight of nine games. The team finished with just five wins in Atlantic 10 play but has matched up well with La Salle this season. The Rams lost the first game to La Salle on the road, 77-75 in overtime. URI scored 38 points in the paint and out-rebounded La Salle 49-43 in the loss. In the second game in Rhode Island, the Rams were able to pull out a 72-70 win after spotting La Salle an eleven-point lead at the half. URI once again won the rebounding battle, this time 41-35. The Rams also had 32 points in the paint in the rematch. Jalen Carey led URI with 18 points a game in the two games against the Explorers.

The Rams will need to dominate the interior once again if they want to win the rubber match with La Salle. On the season, URI finished last in the A-10 in scoring offense. The Rams also finished last in field goal percentage overall and 3pt field goal percentage. On the defensive end, Rhode Island was ninth in the conference in scoring defense. They are ninth in opponent's field goal percentage but a solid fourth in 3pt defense in the A-10. URI has been sloppy with the basketball, 14th in the conference in turnovers. On the glass, however, the Rams are a solid third in the A-10 in total rebounding.
