Report: Maine Bettors Routed In Super Bowl LVIII Betting

Unlike Super Bowl LVIII, it appears Maine sports bettors were on the wrong end of a rout when it came to betting on the NFL’s signature game.

According to a story posted on the Maine Public Radio website, the Maine Gambling Control Unit reported that DraftKings and Caesars — the two betting apps in the state — collected more than $1 million in revenue while posting a hold of approximately 28% from $3.5 million worth of wagers placed on the Kansas City Chiefs’ 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

“Having a soft opening in November, I think that attributed to not receiving any complaints,” said Milt Champion, executive director for the Maine Gambling Control Unit. “Everybody had a really good time with [sports betting this weekend]. It’s been quiet, and that’s a good thing.”

As a point of comparison, Nevada sportsbooks won $6.8 million against a record $185.6 million handle.
