The Portland Trail Blazers went all-in on a rebuild with the trading of long-time all-star Dame Lillard this offseason. They did not expect to be littered with injuries this season to make the rebuild that much more difficult. The Blazers recently learned that one of the players in their offseason trades, Robert Williams III, is lost for the season with a knee injury suffered over a week ago. The Blazers are also without several other players such as guards Scoot Henderson and Anfernee Simons are both out with injury. On Sunday, the banged-up Blazers fell to the LeBron James-less Lakers 116-110. Jerami Grant led the Blazers with 23 points and Shaedon Sharpe added 19 points in the loss. The Blazers have now lost three straight games after winning their previous three games.
“AD is obviously one of the best players in our game,” Portland coach Chauncey Billups said. “Sometimes guys like that will ge t going. … Their penetration from their guards, it really hurt us a lot of times, because they were able to get it to AD in the pocket. But he was the best player on the floor, and he played well.”
The Blazers have now lost three straight games and their scoring has suffered most of all, both with the loss of Lillard but also without some key offensive contributors on this team out with injury.
