PointsBet Accidentally Takes In-State College Bets In New York

Someone fumbled the ball last week at PointsBet's New York platform, as a game between the Syracuse Orange and the Virginia Tech Hokies was mistakenly offered to Empire State sports bettors.

Similar to restrictions in multiple other states, the law in New York forbids betting on in-state college teams.

“Due to a third-party error, markets for the Syracuse vs. Virginia Tech college football game on Thursday, October 26, were available for betting on the PointsBet platform in New York,” read a statement from PointsBet, a Fanatics Experience.

“A small group of customers placed bets on this game and the markets were settled late in the evening on Thursday night. After the game ended, PointsBet self-reported the issue to the New York State Gaming Commission and voided the wagers. If an impermissible bet was placed as part of a parlay, the leg was voided, and the rest of the parlay stood at an adjusted price.”
