Learn More About Uzbekistan - Pro League (Soccer)

The Uzbekistan Pro League, officially known as the Uzbekistan Super League, is the top-tier professional soccer league in Uzbekistan. It features the best football teams from across the country, and it operates under the governance of the Uzbekistan Football Association. The league was established in 1992 following the independence of Uzbekistan from the Soviet Union and has since evolved into a competitive tournament for domestic clubs.

Structure and Format

The league usually consists of around 12 to 14 teams, though the exact number may vary over the years. Each team plays a series of home and away matches against other teams in the league. The season is typically structured in a round-robin format, where each team plays every other team twice, once at home and once away. The teams earn points for wins and draws, with a win earning three points, a draw one point, and a loss no points.

At the end of the season, the team with the most points is crowned the champion. The teams finishing near the bottom of the league table may face relegation to the second division, while the higher-placed teams often qualify for international tournaments, such as the AFC Champions League or the AFC Cup.

Clubs and Players

The Uzbekistan Pro League features several prominent clubs with rich histories in domestic and regional competitions. Some of the most well-known clubs in the league include:

  • Pakhtakor Tashkent: One of the most successful and popular clubs in Uzbekistan, Pakhtakor has won numerous league titles and is often a contender in international competitions.
  • Bunyodkor: Another top team, known for attracting high-profile players and coaches, especially in the mid-2000s.
  • Nasaf Qarshi: A strong team that has had success both domestically and in regional competitions.
  • Lokomotiv Tashkent: A competitive team with a significant fanbase in the capital.

The league features a mix of homegrown talent and international players, with many teams bolstering their squads with foreign players, primarily from other Central Asian countries, Eastern Europe, and Africa.
