Learn More About Poland - Super Cup (Basketball)

The Polish Basketball Supercup, known in Polish as "Superpuchar Polski w Koszykówce," is an annual event that marks the commencement of the professional basketball season in Poland. Traditionally, this game featured a face-off between the reigning champions of the Polish Basketball League (PLK) and the winners of the Polish Cup. However, in 2024, the format was expanded to include four teams: the PLK champions, the Polish Cup winners, and the other two medalists from the recently concluded PLK season. This change was implemented to enhance the competition's prestige and excitement.

The inaugural Supercup game took place on September 4, 1999, with Śląsk Wrocław securing a narrow victory over Hoop Pekaes Pruszków with a score of 57–55. Over the years, several teams have distinguished themselves in this competition. As of 2024, the clubs with the most Supercup titles are:

  • Anwil Włocławek: 3 titles
  • Śląsk Wrocław: 3 titles
  • Zastal Zielona Góra: 3 titles

The 2024 edition of the Supercup was particularly notable due to its new format. Held in Radom at the Sports Hall RCS from September 28 to 29, it featured four teams: Sopot (PLK champions), Legia Warsaw (Polish Cup winners), King Szczecin (PLK silver medalists), and Śląsk Wrocław (PLK bronze medalists). In a thrilling final, Śląsk Wrocław clinched their third Supercup title by defeating King Szczecin with a close score of 76–75. Reggie Lynch of Śląsk Wrocław was honored as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his outstanding performance.
