Pennsylvania Sportsbooks Report M in Super Bowl Revenue

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported preliminary sports betting gross revenue of nearly $11.1 million on wagers related to Super Bowl LVIII, while operators again posted a double-digit hold.

The nearly $71.6 million handle from Kansas City’s 25-22 overtime win over San Francisco was down 15.1% from the record $84.3 million worth of wagers last year, but that was to be expected without a local rooting interest. Last year, the eastern side of the Keystone State rallied around the Philadelphia Eagles, who lost Super Bowl LVII 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

That defeat resulted in sportsbooks hammering the public and collecting more than $29.7 million in revenue. While revenue was down 62.8% against 2023, Pennsylvania operators still had a robust 15.5% hold — it was 35.3% in 2023 — and fared better than their counterparts in New Jersey and Nevada, which reaped $8.5 million and $6.8 million in winnings, respectively, against nine-figure handle totals.

Pennsylvania’s betting apps'did the heavy lifting against the public, posting a 16.4% win rate to collect more than $10.6 million in revenue. Online handle totaled close to $64.9 million, down 12.3% compared to 2023.
