Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-22-2023

Oakland Athletics (10-37) vs. Seattle Mariners (22-23)

The MLB betting action continues Monday, May 22, 2023, with the Oakland Athletics squaring off against the Seattle Mariners in the AL West showdown at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, and the first pitch is set for 9:40 PM ET.

Oakland and Seattle lock horns for the second time this season, opening a four-game series at T-Mobile Park. Back in the first week of May, the Mariners swept the A’s in a three-game set at Oakland Coliseum (2-1, 7-2, and 5-3).

Sunday’s games have been excluded from the analysis, and the 10-37 Oakland Athletics played the Houston Astros in the closing clash of a three-game set at Minute Maid Park in Houston, hoping to snap their three-game skid. The hapless A’s have only won two of their previous 13 games overall while dropping four consecutive series in the process.

Oakland is scoring 3.74 runs per game (27th in the MLB) on a .229/.310/.378 triple-slash (.248/.320/.408 league average). The Athletics are hitting just .209/.297/.326 with five home runs and five doubles in the last seven days and 172 at-bats. On the other side of the ball, the A’s are yielding a whopping 7.28 runs per contest (30th) while posting a disastrous 7.00 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and .284 opposing batting average.

Kyle Muller will get the starting call Monday in Seattle. The 25-year-old lefty is 1-3 with a hideous 7.71 ERA, 1.95 WHIP, and 30/21 K/BB ratio in nine starts (42 innings pitched) this season. Muller has been a complete disaster through his three outings in May, allowing 16 earned runs on 21 hits and six walks across 13.1 innings of work. He’s now in the 1st percentile in expected batting average and the 6th percentile in expected slugging percentage
